Federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is now available for workers and self-employed people who do not qualify for regular unemployment benefits due to the recent wildfires and windstorms. Workers in Los Angeles County who have lost their jobs or had their hours reduced because of the disaster can apply for DUA or regular unemployment benefits. Claims must be filed by March 10, 2025, unless there is a good cause for a late application.
The fastest and easiest way to apply for benefits is through myEDD, and then select UI Online, which is available in English, Spanish, Armenian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. When submitting an application online, select direct deposit to have benefit payments automatically deposited into a personal bank account, rather than by a mailed debit card or check.
