The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has launched a new online resource to help REALTORS® prevent, detect, and report potential real estate fraud.
Real Estate Fraud Is on the Rise
Real estate transactions can be attractive targets for fraud because they involve large sums of money, tight deadlines, multiple parties, and significant electronic communication. Artificial intelligence is also making impersonation attempts increasingly convincing.
According to the FBI, individuals lost $275 million to real estate fraud in 2025.
REALTORS® are in a unique position to help clients recognize red flags, slow down when something doesn’t look right, verify information, and avoid common scams.
Protect Yourself and Your Clients
NAR’s new Protecting Your Clients and Your Business From Fraud resource provides practical information that agents and brokers can use throughout a transaction, focusing on three key areas:
PREVENT — Reduce opportunities for fraud before it happens.
DETECT — Recognize warning signs and understand what they may mean.
REPORT — Know who to contact and what steps to take when fraud is suspected.
Because fraud can occur at any stage of a transaction, staying informed and having a plan for verification can help protect both your clients and your business.
NAR will continue updating the resource as new types of real estate fraud and scams emerge.
